Why Manchester United will regret hiring Mourinho instead of Pochettino SOURCE: goal.com Unllike the Portuguese coach, the Tottenham manager plays football the 'United Way' and has a better chance of building a legacy at his club It may have seemed like a tactical masterstroke at the time, but the folly of Jose Mourinho’s defensive set-up at in a much-hyped derby clash with Liverpool was brutally exposed last Sunday. Manchester United had headed to Anfield full of vigour, gleefully swatting teams aside with an abundance of goals and flair. Mourinho played to type, though, and set his side out to earn a 0-0 draw. They did. Last Sunday, Liverpool headed to Wembley to play a Tottenham side on a roll, having earned a superb 1-1 draw with Real Madrid in the Bernabeu the week prior. Unlike Mourinho, Mauricio Pochettino decided to go for the jugular. Harry Kane was supported by the pace of Son Heung-Min from the left flank, while Dele Alli was given freedom

Several outlets reported last week that the German had told team-mates he would be leaving the Gunners for Manchester United this winter. With the 29-year-old in the final year of his current deal, Arsenal owner  Stan Kroenke also came out to make it clear that the club would like to keep him around . Ozil, for his part, was happy to get the backing and says he'll give his best for the Gunners, though was not ready to clarify anything about his future.  "It's very nice to hear that [Kroenke's comments] and to see that - he's the major shareholder," Ozil told  Sky Sports. HIV- POSITIVE ITALIAN VALENTINO TALLUTO JAILED FOR INFECTING 30 WOMEN SOURCE: BBC NEWS Valentino Talluto was arrested in November 2015 An Italian accountant has been jailed for 24 years after intentionally infecting 30 women with HIV. Valentino Talluto is said to have had unprotected sex with at least 53 women after his HIV diagnosis in 2006, the youngest of whom was 14 at the relationship's start. The accountant, using the pseudonym "Hearty Style", went on social networks and dating sites to find his victims. On Friday, judges sentenced the 33-year-old to 24 years in prison. Talluto's defence lawyers had argued their client's actions were "imprudent, but not intentional". However, those who asked him to wear a condom were told he was either allergic, or had recently been tested for HIV, news agency AFP reported. When some of the women confronted him after discovering they were infec

TWITTER BANS RT AND SPUTNIK ADS AMID ELECTION INTERFERENCE FEARS  SOURCE; BBC NEWS   Twitter is banning two of Russia's biggest media outlets from buying advertising amid fears they attempted to interfere with the 2016 US election. The ban on advertising from Russia Today (RT) and Sputnik, and all linked accounts, was "effective immediately". US authorities say both act as "a platform for Kremlin messaging". The social media giant will donate an estimated $1.9m (£1.4m) made from the outlets into research on Twitter's use in "civic engagement and elections". Twitter said the decision "was based on the retrospective work we've been doing around the 2016 US election and the US intelligence community's conclusion that both RT and Sputnik attempted to interfere with the election on behalf of the Russian government". The statement, published on the social media platform's blog , continued: "We did not com

CHINA CONGRESS: ALL EYES ON COMMITTEE FOR CLUES TO SUCCESSOR SOURCE: BBC NEWS Chinese President Xi Jinping is preparing to reveal the team of top leaders who will serve under him over the course of the next five-year term. Mr Xi, 64, will on Wednesday announce the line-up of the seven-member Politburo Standing Committee, the country's most powerful politicians. Chinese leaders have in recent decades included one or more possible heirs, indicating a clear line of succession. But there is speculation Mr Xi may buck that trend, cementing his own power. The announcement of the Standing Committee, as well as the 25-member Politburo, comes after the end of the Communist Party congress, China's most important political meeting. Delegates at the meeting elected the powerful Central Committee, a group with some 200 members which meets twice a year. The party voted on Tuesday to enshrine Mr Xi's name and ideology into its constitution, elevating him to the sam

HAIL CESAR! CONTE RESCUED AT THE DEATH BUT CHELSEA HAVE BIG PROBLEMS SOURCE: goal.com The Blues are still just about alive in the title race following a late comback against Watford, but there are gaping holes throughout the squad With 20 minutes to go here at Stamford Bridge, Antonio Conte's job was potentially on the line and Chelsea's chances of retaining the Premier League were all but over as they trailed Watford 2-1. It was set to be their third straight defeat in the league, but late goals from substitute Michy Batshuayi (2) and Cesar Azpilicueta rescued their manager as they ran out 4-2 winners. However, despite this late comeback, there is no hiding from the fact that Chelsea are a club with big problems. Marco Silva's Watford are away day specialists and until their late show it looked like Chelsea’s new objective for the season was to merely finish in the top four. A win just about keeps them in contention with the Manchester clubs for

WHY JACK WILSHERE HAS THE 'COJONES'ARSENAL NEED TO SUCCEED SOURCE: goal.com Wilshere has impressed in the Europa League for Wenger's men and it is only a matter of time before he starts regularly for Arsenal It was four years to the day on Thursday since Jack Wilshere linked up with Olivier Giroud for the quintessential ‘Wengerball’ goal against Norwich. The delicate, one-touch move was the kind of goal Arsene Wenger has dreamt about for years and one which should have propelled the England midfielder to stardom for both club and country. Wilshere ran the Arsenal midfield when he first broke through into the team and if it wasn’t for a series of reoccurring injuries and an unfortunate leg break, he would have almost certainly been a regular fixture in the centre of midfield for Wenger’s men. Wilshere’s second half performance against Red Star Belgrade on Thursday brought back memories of the youngster who dominated in midfield against Xavi

SOMETHING IS A MISS WITH LUIS SUAREZ SOURCE: goal.com The Uruguayan striker wasted one glorious chance and was also off target with another as an efficient Barcelona beat Malaga at Camp Nou on Saturday Barcelona keep winning and Luis Suarez is still missing. Saturday night's 2-0 win for Ernesto Valverde's side over Malaga was another welcome result for the Catalan club, but again their centre-forward was a disappointment. Malaga were the only side Barca failed to beat in either fixture in La Liga last season, losing away to Michel's men and only managing a draw at home to the Andalusians. Five points dropped that could have earned the title for Luis Enrique's team. Michel, a Real Madrid legend from his playing days, had been happy to help Los Blancos win La Liga with their victory over Barca at La Rosaleda and defeat to Zinedine Zidane's side at home in the last game of the season saw the title head back to the Santiago Bernabeu for t

Voting opened at 07:00 local time on Sunday (22:00 GMT Saturday). Mr Abe called the election amid rebounding approval ratings after a record low over the summer and with the opposition largely in disarray. If, as predicted, Mr Abe is re-elected, he will be on track to become Japan's longest serving post-war leader. An early challenge from the popular governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike, appears to be fizzling out, according to the BBC's Tokyo correspondent Rupert Wingfield-Hayes. One observer described voting for Mr Abe's Liberal Democratic Party as TINA - there is no alternative. Mr Abe is hoping his party will win a two-thirds majority, allowing him to make constitutional changes. In particular, he wants to ch

Is crisis-hit Conte's Chelsea career destined to end like Mourinho's? SOURCE: goal.com Chelsea have been unable to match their title-winning form so far this season with injuries beginning to pile up and energy levels low Chelsea cantered to the Premier League title last season, propelled to glory by a 13-game winning streak that left the rest reeling. But the question was always lurking in the background: how well would they fare when European football was factored in? We now have the answer. Not very. That’s because the conditions for the victories last season cannot be replicated. Conte alarmingly revealed on Friday that his squad are working up to 70 per cent less on the tactical and physical aspects in training due to the increased demands in the calendar. It is only natural that an on-field drop-off would follow. "I have my methods,” Conte said in response to reports that the Chelsea squad were wearied by their current training sched
