US Soccer Fans Go Wild With Copa America Win Over Ecuador To Make Semifinals

We did it! We can be so proud of our boys right now for everything they have achieved in the Copa America this year. On June 16 they advanced to the semifinals with a very impressive 2-1 win over Ecuador, and US soccer fans are rightfully going wild on Twitter. Lap it up, everybody! It’s great to be a fan of the red, white and blue right now!

Oh say can you see… the USMNT in the semifinals of the Copa America! Yes, against all the odds and early criticism from many soccer experts, Jurgen Klinsmann has led the USA to the last four of the one of the most hardest competitions in world soccer to win. The US saw off Ecuador 2-1 in a fascinating and frantic game that ended with both teams going down to ten men, and the fans are going wild!

US hero Clint Dempsey opened the scoring with a well-executed header after great work by Bobby Wood and Jermaine Jones on the flank. Jermaine lofted the ball into the box, and boom! Clint was there to head it home after just 22 minutes. Six minutes into the second half, both teams went down to 10-men when Antonio Valencia and Jermaine were sent off. Despite that disturbance in the game, USA extended their lead in the 65th minute when Gyasi Zardes tapped home at the near post.

But just when you thought Ecuador was out of it, Michael Arroyo got them right back in it with 16 minutes left. It gave us a nervy finish, one in which Enner Valencia could EASILY have tied the game late on, however the USA held on and the fans were over the moon!
We’re going to need the whole country behind us for the semifinal match, that will be against Lionel Messi‘s Argentina or Venezuela. Whoever it is, bring it on! We’re not scared!
