Keep reading for more details on what we’ve learned about the 31-year-old French/Tunisian who was responsible for the July 14 Bastille Day attack.
Now we know the identity of the awful person who was responsible for the horrific Bastille Day terrorist attack in Nice, France. French authorities have named Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel as the suspected sole perpetrator of the massacre after an ID found inside the truck that he used to mow through a crowd gathering to watch fireworks matched the dead driver. He was shot and killed by police after he got out of his truck — after running over and killing 84 people and injuring over 100 more — and began opening fire.

Mohamed was reportedly known to police in connection to theft and violent crimes, according to Daily Mail. He was found guilty of violent conduct in March 2016. He rented the truck two days before the attack and had been parked on the street for almost nine hours before mowing down innocent people. He reportedly told police he was delivering ice cream when they allegedly questioned him.So far Mohamed has been determined to be the sole suspect in the Nice tragedy, which makes him responsible for the highest number of victims killed by a single terrorist. It appears that he acted alone, and ISIS did not make any initial claims of responsibility for the massacre as they have in other European cities like Paris, Brussels and Istanbul.
It’s unclear if Mohamed had been radicalized in Islam, but his attack was clearly planned out ahead of time as he used a large white rental truck to carry out his deadly spree and did it on a day when Nice’s beachfront promenade would be the most packed. He drove over a mile down the jam-packed walkway right after a fireworks display over the Mediterranean Sea celebrating France’s Independence Day had just ended. Many families had been out to see the patriotic event and sadly there were at least 10 children among the 84 victims. Mohamed had a cache of explosives and more guns in the back of his truck and it’s unclear how he intended to use those.
